ABOUT THE WALK

“Once upon a time, there were two giants that lived in the land we call Bristol…” In the northwestern reach of Bristol lies the Blaise Castle Estate, known to many as a pleasant woodland walk with plentiful trees, steep limestone cliffs and gorgeous views. But not many people know how the Blaise Estate came to be. A rainforested lost valley, home to giants, ghosts, Celts, Romans and robbers throughout the ages. This is a place where history, myth and legend still live among the ferns and mossy cliffs; and it’s within a giant stone throw of the city centre. Join James on a guided walk around this magical corner of Bristol, with plenty of stories, surprises and quality nature time along the way. - SEE a hidden castle with jaw-dropping views; caves and grottoes; some really cool trees - HEAR the legend of Goram and Vincent, the two giant brothers who carved out the Bristol we know today; and the stories of humans that have lived here ever since - FEEL relaxed in the lush surroundings of a real rainforest; revitalised with some short but steep walks along the side of the wooded gorge; amazed that this hidden natural gem is so close to Bristol city centre and the M5 THIS WALK IS FOR YOU IF: - You want to go on a short but adventurous nature hike - You had no idea Bristol had its own rainforest - You want to explore some fascinating history and folklore first-hand - You need something to occupy the kids and/or dog - You need to stretch your legs or blow out some cobwebs DETAILS Start: St Mary’s Church, Henbury, BS10 7QF Finish: Blaise Museum, BS10 7QS (near the start point) Parking: Blaise Castle Estate - Henbury Lodge Car Park, BS10 7AA Distance: Approx 3km Duration: 2-3 hours Terrain: Some steep paths with muddy tracks; optional detour to a rocky cliff with uneven surface (weather and ability dependent) Ages: All Dogs: Welcome Good Vibes: Essential Price: £10 per adult £5 concessions (12-17yrs, 65+yrs, students, unwaged) FREE for kids aged 11yrs and under (Half Term special!)
